Why I love Loft

In transforming one’s wardrobe, we often talk about editing the closet and defining your style. Both of these steps ultimately result in the need for careful, considerate shopping to find the pieces you now know you must add.

And one of the hardest parts of the process is figuring out just where to go to find these key pieces in your new, improved style.

That’s why I find myself returning again and again to Ann Taylor LOFT. For me, the store has just the right mix of the cuts that fit on my body, affordable price points, and clean, modern styles that are fashion-forward without being overly trendy–or inappropriately young.

The trick is to start by knowing what types of clothes you’re looking for–work-friendly? bohemian? dramatically modern?–and begin to review the boutiques, chain stores, catalogues and sites you have available. Which of these outlets sells items with the characteristics you want?

It may be a combination of several: work pieces from a department store, basics from a well-known chain like the Gap, and unique accessories from a local tradesperson’s boutique.

And if you prefer to do most of your shopping online, the sky’s the limit. (In this case, remember you’re trading vast selection for the ability to try something on before purchasing it.)

As for me, I’m off to the LOFT.
