Working Mom Outfits Level 5: Date night
The 5 Levels of Working Mom Outfits: Level 5, Date Night by closetcoach
[This post is part of the series The 5 Levels of Working Mom Outfits, where you learn ways to assemble outfits for any situation, whether you’re on the job or on the go.]
If the FDA had a Pyramid diagram for outfits, Level 5 would be in the tippy top. These are the clothes you wear sparingly. We’re talking serious Special Occasion outfits.
We’re talking about Date Night.
Because every mom needs at least one outfit in her closet that’s all about being a woman, a red hot sexy woman. (Trust me, your husband/boyfriend/significant other thinks so, too.)
How to create a Level 5 Working Mom Outfit: Date Night
- Dress: It’s not absolutely required that you wear a dress on Date Night, but if you’re not going to break out your LBD for this, when are you? Really, any pretty dress is made for this, even if it’s neither little nor black. And if it’s sexy pretty? So much the better. Show a little skin! (Just remember to keep it in balance. Décolleté is sexy. A short skirt is sexy. Décolleté and a short skirt is questionable, taste-wise.)
- Top: If you are going to forego a dress, now’s your chance to wear something silky, draped, sleeveless, or V-necked. Again, think sexy pretty.
- Skirt: If it’s a fabric you’d never wear to the office, then it’s perfect for Date Night. If it’s black, it’s perfect for Date Night. If it’s a little on the short side and shows off your smokin’ legs, it’s perfect for Date Night.
- Pants: No. Seriously. Unless you’re working a YSL Le Smoking look, pants + top doesn’t = Date Night, it = meeting with a client. And that puts you right back at Level 4.
- Shoes: Heels, heels, heels. How high depends on your personal comfort level, but neither is this the time for a flat, a loafer or a chunky wedge.
- Accessories: Yes! Sure, pearls will still work here (when can’t you wear pearls?). But so will colorful costume jewelry, sterling silver pendants, chokers, even rhinestones. And if you actually have diamonds? Then by all means, bring your best friends along. This is a great time to break out a little clutch bag, too.
Of course, when accessorized properly, our fancy Date Night clothes are most likely the ones that will serve us for less, er, romantic special occasions: weddings, graduations, awards dinners.
And this isn’t to say, either, that all Date Nights are Level 5 occasions. Sometimes you’re just heading to the local cineplex to watch an R rated movie on an actual movie screen without interruption.
But for all those Level 2 outings we squeeze in from time to time, we deserve at least one that dials it all the way up to 5, don’t you think?
