The year in personal style: My 7 favorite outfits of 2011
Unlike a lot of other fashion and style bloggers, I was late to the personal style post (aka outfit photos) game. It seemed so … strange … to post pictures of myself online and then go ask strangers to come look at them.
But I came around once I realized what a great tool it is for assessing how an outfit looks from everyone else’s perspective as well as patterns in my own style.
My first personal style post was in June and I’ve posted one on Wednesdays ever since.
Today, instead of a new outfit, here are my 7 favorites from 2011:
- 12/14: How to wear a summer wrap dress in December I love the dress and the boots; I really think the whole ensemble works well.
- 10/19: Tourist attraction Chosen 95% for the killah shoes and for the only post that’s ever been shot somewhere other than my house.
- 9/14: Retro again in a denim shirtdress I love the silhouette of this dress; I need to wear it more often. I also like the way the brown belt echoes the lighter brown of the sandals.
- 9/7: How to get “Mad Men” style without going to Banana Republic When I set out to create a “Mad Men” inspired outfit, I originally chosen completely different pieces, but when I put them on, they didn’t work the way I thought they would. This version was improvised on the spot. Goes to show sometimes instinct works best.
- 8/17: Modern vintage Hmm. Retro look #3 out of 7 outfits.
- 7/27: Putting the S.W.A.P. into action I had fun participating in this blogger event and found these great separates in the process. I’ve since worn the scarf, dress and vest several times, both together and apart.
- 6/22: New neutral dress Chosen 95% for the goofy grin. My only non-posed shot! (And I love the dress, too. It’s a Calvin Klein cousin to the dress in #3.)
You know what I said about assessing patterns?
Based on these choices, I look best in retro looks and silhouettes, animal print, and dresses–there’s a whole lot of Level 4 going on here. (And I haven’t settled on a hair length.)
Apparently I should go shopping for a vintage leopard print dress …
Your turn
- Is my assessment right? Do you think these looks worked well for me? (Be gentle!)
- The hair: longer or shorter?
- What patterns did you see in your own outfits this year?
